Hyper Island and tacos
Jun 2011 20

Starting the Hyper Island Master Class in New York this morning.
I guess hanging out with fellow attendee and Toronto copywriter, Dave Delibato, over tacos, many beers and sangria may not have been the best way to prepare.
But dammit, those tacos are so good.

Some spots just make me want to be a better copywriter.
This is the latest.
They had me at “backspin on a warped table, under bad light…”.

Beautiful spot. Maybe my pick for the Cannes Grand Prix.

* warning: unnecessary blog post just to update follows *

Well, I’m drinking the dinosaur Kool-Aid® and attending Hyper Island in New York, the 3-day course on changes in advertising, in the next few weeks.

Rather than a course on ‘digital’, Hyper Island stresses that it’s about staying viable in this business moving forward. I’ve been wanting to attend this course since I read about it last year in ‘Fast Company’. I guess the fact I read about it in my physical, printed on paper, magazine means that I’m a little behind the curve. Recently at one of my gigs, a team had to explain to me what the limitations of a big box banner are and I admit I felt like the guy still thinking Vaudeville had a future while talking to the ‘moving picture show’ people.

FujiTamale on board with RMW
May 2011 09

I’m excited to announce that I’m the new Radio Writer | Track Director with RMW Music here in Toronto, on a freelance basis.

After 15 years of writing radio commercials for more clients and agencies that I can recall, my services are now available through Rosnick Mackinnon Webster. Whether it’s writing original spots directly for clients or producing your already-written spots for agencies, I’m available to help. Or to completely lay the blame on.

Over the years, RMW has been involved with some of the work I’m most proud of, including IKEA during my time at Zig, so my relationship with them goes back a long way and I’m proud to enter into this new phase of my advertising career with them.

Yes, I’m still a pencil-for-hire available for contracts or projects not associated with RMW but I’m looking at this as yet another service that FujiTamale can provide.

More details to come, but if you’re looking to use my services with RMW, please contact Jeff Cohen at 416-323-3511.

I love how Skittles ads just get stranger and stranger.

Their latest effort is brilliant. Just for the web, they encourage viewers to put their thumbs or fingers somewhere on the screen and watch what magic unfolds.

Just found out these were done here in Canada.

Well done, BBDO Toronto. CW: Mike Donaghey AD: Chris Joakim
